Dr. Zhao is the Huff endowed Professor of Environmental Engineering at Auburn University. He received his Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering from Lehigh University in 1997. His research focuses on physical-chemical processes in the natural and engineered systems, catalytic degradation of persistent organic pollutants, and developing innovative nanomaterials and technologies for in situ remediation of contaminated soil and groundwater. His group has been a pioneer in developing novel stabilized nanoparticles for in situ degradation of organic pollutants and immobilization of toxic metals and radionuclides in soil and groundwater, and the technologies have been field tested worldwide. He and co-workers have published/delivered more than 150 SCI-indexed journal papers, 6 U.S. patents, one textbook, 15 book chapters, 100+ invited presentations, and 250+ other publications/presentations. His work has been cited more than 7600 times with an h-Index of 42.
